The sailing trip is conducted by locals. 6.500 euros are paid to the manager. An additional 999 euros is charged for organization, research and support to travel otherways. With this contribution you support the purpose of travel otherways and contribute to a positive impact on tourism.
It’s important for us that everyone gets payed a fair share and that most of the money goes to where it’s needed: the locals.
For the contribution to travel otherways VAT is not charged according to § 19 Abs. 1 UStG (German regulations)
Depending on the local tour operation an additional charge of 16% taxes will be charged. This will be communicated throughout the booking process.

In addition, the following costs are not included:
International flights including CO2 compensation (stay longer in one country or travel on afterwards), for flights (e.g. Germany - Kenya & Zanzibar - Germany) you should calculate about 550 to 750 euros. Costs for flights to/from other countries vary.
Flight from Nairobi/Mombasa to Lamu (between 40 and 70 euros). Alternatively, the route can also be covered with more climate-friendly and cheaper means of transport.
Tourist visas for Kenya and Tanzania (approx. 50 euros), depending on your country of origin
Mandatory Inbound Travel Insurance from the Zanzibar Insurance Corporation (ZIC) for the duration of your stay (up to 92 days). You can only buy this insurance from ZIC. Other international travel insurance policies will not be accepted (approx 45 euros)
Accomodation in Zanzibar and Lamu before and after the trip. Feel free to get in touch with me for recommendations.
Travel vaccinations (Yellow Fever vaccine compulsory for travels into Tanzania)

Deposit:
To confirm your booking, a deposit of 2.250 euros is required.
The payment schedule is as follows:
Deposit: 2.250 euros – Due after booking
Second Payment: 2.250 euros – 6 weeks before departure
Final Payment: Remaining balance – Due upon arrival in Zanzibar and before departure with the dhow.
Payment Information:
Payments for the trip can be usually be made in Euros, USD, or Kenyan Shillings. The official exchange rate on the day of payment will be applied. Please note that any fees charged by your bank, including those resulting from a different exchange rate used by your bank, will be added to the final payment amount. This policy ensures that local participants are not burdened with any additional transaction fees.
Cancellation Policy:
Cancellation before the second payment: deposit of 2.250 euros is non-refundable.
Cancellation after the second payment: deposit of 4.500 euros is non-refundable.
