Past Trip
What awaits you in Kenya
In a small group we go with the flow in search of authentic places and encounters. Let's marvel at wildlife in a different way, let's take a cross-country train ride and sail towards the horizon on the Indian Ocean. We explore bustling cities and discover pristine beaches. We're high on chai and stuffing our bellies with chapati. We dance to African beats and dive into the country's cultural customs. With new friends we make unique experiences that you will not forget.
Don't miss out on this experience and secure your spot today.

The money we spend while traveling is not part of the basic contribution.
Here is an estimate of the costs while traveling:
The daily budget for transport, accommodation and full board varies between 25 and 45 euros depending on the country.
An additional 550 euros for special excursions (e.g. safaris, sailing tours or snorkeling trips).
Expenses for the travel coach (e.g. accommodation, meals, transport and excursions) will be shared within the group. The costs depend on the group size. With 5 travelers, the costs for the travel coach vary between 14 and 18 euros per day.
If necessary, approx. 100 euros for additional domestic flights, which can alternatively be covered with cheaper and more climate-friendly public transport.
Kenya is not a cheap country. However, the travel coach has gained a lot of experience and can recommend insider tips at fair prices that are not easy to find. We avoid hotel chains, expensive boutique hotels, luxury resorts and tourist restaurants. On the one hand because we didn't factor this into our budget, on the other hand because it doesn't suit our way of traveling. By the way: Travel otherways guarantees complete cost transparency. No commission, no hidden costs.
-
In addition, the following costs are not included:
International flights including CO2 compensation (stay longer in one country or travel further afterwards), for a return flight (eg. Germany - Nairobi) you should calculate between 500 and 650 euros. Those costs can vary depending on the country youβre living.
Airport transfer (can be organized on request)
Tourist Visa
Travel vaccinations
Covid vaccination or tests
Foreign health insurance
Personal expenses such as alcoholic beverages, snacks, souvenirs etc.
-
Without flight and visa, you should calculate between 2,050 euros and 2,485 euros for the trip. This estimation includes the basic contribution, accommodation, meals, transport, excursions (also safari) and costs for the travel coach.
With flight and visa, you should plan a travel budget of 2,598.00 euros to 3,185 euros.
-
Your spot is secure after the deposit has been received. You can cancel the trip free of charge up to two weeks before departure and receive the full deposit back. Alternatively, up to two weeks before departure, you can flexibly decide on another trip offered by travel otherways or request a voucher of the same value.
Cancellations and rebookings are easily possible via email or WhatsApp
Cancellation less than two weeks before the start of your trip is only possible if we are unable to enter the country due to unforeseeable circumstances (e.g. political situation, environmental disasters, etc.) or new travel restrictions. In these cases we will cancel the trip from our side and you will get the full money back.
Founder and Travel Coach
Melissa Vettel is the founder of travel otherways and travel is her passion. In the last 10 years alone she has traveled more than 35 countries. Mostly as a backpacker - with a small budget, away from mass tourism and quite often facing challenges.
Her travel experiences and her work as a communications expert for NGOs have shown her how important solidarity and encounters on an equal footing are. With travel otherways, Melissa is now committed to sustainable and fair tourism and, as a travel coach, sensitizes travelers to the topic.
